How do I merge a gable with the wall below it?

Learn how to merge a gable plane with its base wall so they share the same material and orientation.

Menu path

Walls > Gable Operations

What it does

Merges a gable plane with its base wall so they adopt the same material properties and orientation. This creates a seamless appearance between the gable and wall sections.

🧾 Prerequisites

Before merging a gable with a wall, you need to have already inserted a gable on the wall. See the related article "How do I add a gable plane to a wall?" for instructions on gable insertion.

🔧 How to merge a gable with a wall

  1. First, select the gable plane you want to merge

  2. Then, select the wall plane below it

  3. Execute the merge command (right-click menu or appropriate toolbar option)

💡 Viewing tip

Before merging, it's recommended to switch to Isometric view, and to display the hatch pattern on the planes by selecting Show > Walls from the menu. The hatch pattern shows the material orientation, making it easier to see the difference between merged and unmerged gables.

🛠 What happens when you merge

When you merge a gable plane with a wall plane:

  • The gable adopts the same material as the base wall

  • The material orientation (siding direction) matches the wall

  • The hatch pattern becomes consistent across both surfaces

⚠️ Important notes

Remember that the hatch pattern also shows the orientation of the material cladding. This visual feedback helps ensure proper alignment before completing the merge operation.
