How do I modify wall panels after generation?

Learn how to split, merge, delete, resize, and realign wall panels after they've been generated on your walls.

Menu path

Walls > Modify Wall Panels

🧾 What it does

This command allows you to modify how panels have been generated on walls. You can adjust join overlaps, split panels at specific locations, merge panels together, delete unwanted panels, change lengths, and realign panels with different reference lines.

πŸ”§ How to access

Click on Modify Wall Panels to open the modification dialog where you can access all panel editing options.

πŸ›  Splitting panels

Option

Description

Join Underlap

Enter the amount you require panels to overlap at joins

Use Maximum Panel Length Only

Any panel lengths exceeding the Maximum Panel Length will be automatically split at this length

Select Panel Split Line

Manually select a line where you want to split panels (e.g. window edge, door edge, wall purlin). Useful for panels cut to length or supplied in factory stock lengths

Split into Stock Lengths

Automatically selects appropriate sizes from defined stock lengths (Setup > Metal Panels). You can choose to display actual length or rounded up length matching stock sizes

πŸ›  Inserting panels

Insert Cladding Panels: Generate panels on a single wall plane at a time.

πŸ›  Merging panels

Merge 2 Panels: Merge two panels together to create one panel.

πŸ›  Deleting panels

Option

Description

Delete Individual Panels

Manually select panels to delete one at a time

Delete All Panels on Wall

Delete all panels on a selected wall plane

πŸ›  Modifying existing panels

Option

Description

Change Panel Length

Individually modify calculated sheet/panel lengths. Usually done after site measure where small changes are needed due to construction variations. Specify amount to add or subtract from panel length

Realign Wall Panels

Align panels with any line in the model geometry, door/window edges, or custom reference lines

🧾 Panel alignment options

The default starting point for each wall has panels aligned with the wall corner. However, you can align panels with any line in the model geometry.

Creating custom alignment lines:

  1. Create a line using CAD > Line Insert > Vertical Length

  2. Snap the start point to the apex (line length doesn't matter)

  3. Align panels with that line to align with the highest point of the wall

Copying existing lines for alignment:

  1. Use Smartlines > Copy Line function

  2. Copy the line to the required location (snapping to the desired point)

  3. Align panels through the new location (e.g. ridge apex of gable end)

  4. Delete the copied line if it has attributes to avoid adding to quantities

πŸ›  Alignment examples

Door edge alignment: Align panels with door edges for consistent appearance around openings.

Random line alignment with stock lengths: Align with custom lines and divide into stock length panels for optimal material usage.

πŸ’‘ Tips

  • If you don't get the desired result, simply use Undo and try a different approach

  • Consider panel alignment early in your design process to minimise later modifications

  • Use stock length splitting when working with pre-cut panels to optimise material usage

  • Remember to delete copied reference lines with attributes to avoid quantity errors

⚠️ Important notes

  • Panel modifications affect material quantities - review totals after changes

  • Some modifications may require regenerating adjacent panels for consistency

  • Always verify panel lengths meet structural and installation requirements
