How do I add a gable plane to a wall?

Learn how to insert a gable plane on top of a wall and configure the merge options.

Menu path

Walls > Add Gable

🧾 What it does

This command inserts a gable plane on top of a wall. The gable plane is created at a pitch angle you specify and can be kept separate from the wall below or merged with it.

🔧 How to use it

  1. Ensure you have already projected the wall lines (this is a prerequisite for adding gables)

  2. Navigate to Walls > Add Gable

  3. Enter the slope of the gable when prompted

  4. Select the line at the top of the wall where you want to add the gable

  5. Choose whether to merge the gable plane with the wall plane when prompted

🛠 Merge options

After adding the gable, you will be prompted about merging:

  • Keep separate: The gable plane remains as a distinct element from the wall below

  • Merge: The gable plane combines with the wall plane into a single element

A gable plane is then inserted on top of the wall based on your specified slope and merge preferences.

Gable end plane merged with main wall plane.

💡 Tips

Walls showing horizontal and vertical siding as a hatch pattern.
Panel direction or orientation lines are only visible if Hatching is the default setting for your wall planes.
If you have Filled planes as the default setting, you cannot see the direction of the panels until after panels have been applied. Panel orientation can be changed after panels have been applied and they will automatically re-draw.

⚠️ Prerequisites

You must have already projected the wall lines to create the walls, before using this command. This ensures the wall geometry is properly defined for gable placement.
