How do I use the Cut Plane tool?

Learn how to find and mark the intersection line between two roof planes using the Cut Plane tool.

Menu Path

Modify-Cut Plane

What it does

The Cut Plane tool calculates and draws a line at the intersection of two roof planes. This is particularly useful when constructing complex roof shapes one plane at a time and they need to be trimmed back to where the planes intersect.

πŸ”§ How to use it

  1. Select the Cut Plane button from the modify tools

  2. Click on the first roof plane you want to find the intersection for

  3. Click on the second roof plane

  4. The software automatically calculates and inserts an orange line at the line of intersection

πŸ›  Example

When two roof planes intersect, the Cut Plane tool will mark their intersection with an orange line, as shown in the images below:

πŸ’‘ When to use this tool

This tool is most useful when:

  • Building complex roof shapes plane by plane

  • You need to trim planes back to their natural intersection points

  • Creating precise connections between different roof sections
