How do I use Intersect-Planes?

Learn how to use the Intersect-Planes command to automatically divide overlapping roof planes and remove hidden sections.

Menu path

Modify Roof > Intersect-Planes

The Intersect-Planes command automatically intersects and divides roof planes in your model, then removes the parts of planes that sit below other roof planes. This creates clean intersections where multiple roof sections overlap.

This command is particularly useful for complex roof designs like spires at the corner of hip roofs, where multiple roof planes need to meet seamlessly.

πŸ”§ How to use Intersect-Planes

  1. Draw two or more complete roof sections in your model. They can be at the same or different eave heights and use different covering materials.

  2. Select Modify Roof > Intersect-Planes from the menu.

  3. Respond to the prompt to continue when it appears.

  4. The command will automatically intersect, divide, and delete the appropriate roof parts.

  • Cleaning up overlapping roof planes of different heights

  • Joining roofs with different covering materials

πŸ’‘ Tips

  • Ensure all roof sections are completely drawn before running the command

  • The command works with roofs at different eave heights

  • Different covering materials on intersecting roofs are preserved

⚠️ Important notes

  • This command will permanently modify your roof geometry

  • Make sure to save your work before using this command

  • The command removes roof parts that are below other planes - ensure this is the desired outcome.
