How do I set up delivery areas (Areas.dat)

Configure delivery area names for job pricing and logistics using the Areas.dat data file.

Menu path

Set-Up > More... > Area Names

What it does

The Areas.dat file stores the names of delivery areas that appear in your job details. These areas help you organize jobs by location and can be used for pricing, scheduling, and logistics planning.

🧾 Understanding delivery areas

Delivery areas appear when you create or edit jobs through Job Info > Job Details. They help you:

  • Categorize jobs by geographical location

  • Apply location-based pricing or delivery charges

  • Organize work schedules by area

  • Track job distribution across your service territory

πŸ”§ Default delivery areas

Roof Wizard comes with pre-configured delivery areas:

Area Name

Typical Use

Metro

Central city area

Outer 1-4

Suburban zones at increasing distances

Country

Rural or remote areas

North, South, East, West

Directional zones from your base

⚠️ Important limitations and notes

  • Maximum areas: You can have up to 10 delivery areas maximum

  • File format: Keep each area name on a separate line

  • Backup first: Always backup the original file before making changes

  • Restart required: Changes only take effect after restarting Roof Wizard

  • Job impact: Existing jobs will retain their original area assignments even if you rename areas

πŸ’‘ Best practices

  • Use area names that are meaningful to your team and customers

  • Consider your typical service radius when naming areas

  • Keep names short to fit well in dialog boxes

  • Test changes with a few jobs before fully implementing
