How do I change the eave or gable overhang on my roof model?

Learn where eave and gable overhangs are set during roof creation, how to change them using Change Overhang for Eave/Gable after closing your outline, and how to adjust gable (vertical plane) overhang later using Modify Roof > Change Gable O’Hang.

The overhangs from the wall outline for eaves and gables are defined when you set the default settings for all aspects of your roof model — pitch, eave height etc.

These are the values that are applied around the entire perimeter and can only be changed at the next step, after you have selected [OK] (indicating that you have correctly set your roof parameters).

✅ Changing overhangs during roof creation (recommended workflow)

After you have closed off your outline [OK], you are presented with the dialog that allows you to:

  • define a vertical plane (typically a gable end), and

  • [Change Overhang for Eave/Gable]

⚠️ Note – these steps are numbered 1, 2, 3 because they must be done in that order. If you change eave overhang and then go back to Define Vertical Planes, the eave change is lost.

So select that option and then select the wall line you want to change (don't forget to read the prompts — they tell you what to do!).

✅ Exception: Changing a gable end overhang after the model is created

The exception to this rule is if the overhang is on a gable end / vertical plane.

You can change these after the model has been created by selecting:

Modify Roof > Change Gable O’Hang (pulldown menu)

Then:

  • Select the ridge line near the gable end you want to change

  • Enter the distance

    • A positive number will extend the ridge line

    • A negative number will shrink the ridge line

Follow the prompts!
