How do I delete holes in roof planes?

Remove holes left in roof planes after deleting dormers or other features without recreating the entire plane.

Menu path

Modify Roof > Delete Hole

What it does

This function allows you to remove a hole created in a plane, without having to re-create the plane. For example, this situation might exist if you have deleted a dormer, instead of using Undo to remove it. If you have done a lot of work after the insertion of the dormer, then you would not want to use the Undo function.

πŸ›  Common scenario

When you delete a dormer using standard delete functions (rather than Undo), a hole is left in the roof plane where the dormer was located. The Delete Hole function fills this gap by rebuilding the plane without the hole.

In this example you delete the Dormer, but the hole remains:

Simply select one of the perimeter lines, and the plane is re-built without the hole:

πŸ”§ How to use it

  1. Locate the hole in your roof plane (typically after deleting a dormer or similar feature)

  2. Go to Modify Roof > Delete Hole

  3. Select one of the perimeter lines around the hole edge

  4. The plane will be automatically rebuilt without the hole

πŸ’‘ Tips

  • This function is particularly useful when you've made significant progress after inserting a dormer and don't want to lose work by using Undo

  • Select any of the lines that form the boundary of the hole - the software will automatically detect and fill the entire opening

  • The plane material and properties will be restored to match the surrounding roof area

⚠️ Important notes

  • This function specifically targets holes created by deleted features - it won't work on intentional openings like skylights that are part of your design

  • Make sure you select a perimeter line of the hole itself, not other roof lines
