How do I insert and manage roof grids?

Learn how to insert reference grids on roof planes and manage their visibility for site inspections and condition reports.

Menu Path

View > Insert Grid

๐Ÿงพ What it does

The roof grid function inserts an operator-defined grid onto the roof planes of your 3D roof model. This is typically used as a reference grid for site inspections and condition reports for 'as built' documentation. Having the grid on the roofing report helps with the placement of roof fixtures and penetrations identified during a site visit.

๐Ÿ”ง Insert Roof Grid

Selecting the View > Insert Roof Grid option brings up the Grid Options dialogue box.

The grid spacing may be defined for the primary grid line and a secondary or reference grid line. Consider the units of measurement when setting these. Each primary or reference grid line may have a different colour, style or weight, helping provide the required emphasis to the grid layout.

Experiment with these settings until you get what works best for your situation.

โš ๏ธ Important note: If this is to be used in conjunction with the insolation and shadow calculations, avoid using line colour numbers within the range from 21 to 170 as these will be changed to suit the settings for the calculation and display of relative levels of solar radiation.

Function

Description

Show/Hide Grid

Turns the grid on or off. It does not delete the grid.

Move Grid

Allows the operator to position the start point of a grid to a particular reference point or item on the roof.

Delete Grid on One Plane

Deletes the grid on just one of the roof planes.

Delete Grid on All Planes

Deletes the grid from all planes in the roof model.

Note:

This is not the same as View > Set Grid.

Set Grid displays a grid onto the current CPL so that you can 'snap' to grid points. This is not often used in Roof Wizard as we are usually working with specified dimensions.

Sets the default snap grid on screen.
