How do I change a hip end to a gable end?

Convert a hip end into a gable end using the Hip to Gable modification tool.

Updated over a week ago

Menu path

Mod-Roof > Hip To Gable

What it does

This command converts a hip end into a gable end by automatically changing the roof geometry and adjusting the boundary line types accordingly.

🧾 Understanding the difference

Hip end: A roof end that slopes inward on all sides to meet at a point or ridge.

Gable end: A vertical triangular wall section at the end of a roof where two roof slopes meet.

πŸ”§ How to use it

  1. Select Mod-Roof > Hip To Gable from the menu

  2. When prompted, click on the ridge line that is attached to the hip end you want to convert

  3. The hip end will automatically convert to a gable end

  4. The boundary line types will automatically update

πŸ’‘ Selection tip

When you select the ridge, make sure you click on the ridge line close to the hip end you want to change. If there is a hip at the other end of the ridge, clicking too far away might convert the wrong end instead.

πŸ›  What changes after conversion

After the hip to gable conversion is completed:

  • The eave line (horizontal edge where the roof meets the wall) under the new gable is tagged as "None"

  • The rake lines (sloped edges along the gable sides) are tagged as "Barge"

  • Boundary line types are automatically adjusted to reflect the new gable geometry
