How do I change plane types?

Learn how to change plane types between Roof Plane, Wall Plane, or None to control how the system recognises and calculates planes in your roof design.

Updated this week

Menu path

Tools > Change Entity > Plane Type

🧾 What it does

This command allows you to change the type of plane to a Roof Plane, Wall Plane or to None. Changing to None has the effect of the system not recognising that plane as a roof plane in its material calculations, area calculations, and estimation processes.

πŸ”§ How to use it

  1. Select the plane you want to modify by clicking on it

  2. Navigate to Tools > Change Entity > Plane Type

  3. Choose your desired plane type from the options:

Plane Type

Description

Roof Plane

System recognises this as part of the roof structure for material calculations and estimates

Wall Plane

System treats this as a wall element, affecting how it's calculated in estimates

None

System ignores this plane in roof calculations and material estimates

πŸ›  When to use each plane type

Roof Plane: Use for actual roofing surfaces that need materials and should be included in estimates.

Wall Plane: Use for vertical surfaces like gable walls, dormers, or other wall elements that require different material calculations.

None: Use for reference planes, construction lines, or surfaces you want to exclude from calculations while keeping visible for design reference.

⚠️ Important notes

When changing a plane type to None, the system will exclude it from all material calculations and cost estimates. This affects your project's total quantities and pricing, so use carefully.

Always verify your material estimates after changing plane types to ensure accuracy in your project costings.
