How do I display roof line lengths?

Add dimension annotations to roof lines to show their lengths automatically.

Menu Path

Tools > Dimension-Roof > Lengths

This tool annotates the length of each roof line (except for aprons, which are flashing elements at the base of a roof slope). The dimension is rounded to the nearest mm (or ΒΌ inch) and truncated as set up.

🧾 What it does

The tool displays the length of roof lines directly on your drawing. You can customise the colour and positioning of dimension text to improve readability and reduce clutter.

πŸ”§ How to use it

The Roof Line Lengths button is a toggle control:

  1. Click the button once to show roof line dimensions

  2. Click the button again to hide all roof line dimensions

πŸ›  Customising dimension display

Colour settings: Set the colour of dimension text under Set-Up > Dimension Defaults. You can match the dimension text colour to its associated line colour to aid reading.

Positioning: Dimensions can be positioned at a distance away from their associated line to improve clarity and prevent overlap with other drawing elements.

Minimum length threshold: Set the minimum length below which no dimension is inserted under Set-Up > Preference Settings > Dimension Defaults. This helps de-clutter the model by hiding very small measurements.

πŸ”§ Repositioning dimensions

Use the Reposition Dimension command (available under Tools > Dimension Roof > Reposition Dimension) to manually move dimension text that overlaps other parts of your drawing.

πŸ’‘ Tips

  • Use the minimum length threshold to hide dimensions for very short roof elements

  • Match dimension colours to line colours for better visual organisation

  • Reposition overlapping dimensions to maintain drawing clarity
