How do I select tiles for my roof project?

Select tile types and configure all tiled roof parameters including finishes, battens, underlay, and accessories for your project.

Menu Path

Cover > Select Tiles

๐Ÿงพ What it does

The Select Tile command lets you choose the tile for your job and configure all related tiled roof parameters including finishes, battens, underlay, and accessories. This becomes the cover material for all tile roof planes in your model.

Select the appropriate size from the dropdown. Battens are read from the batten materials database. Define new battens using Cover > Flashings.

Apply To

Counter batten

Select the counter batten you want to use

Spacing

Set the spacing of counter battens. Defaults to the rafter spacing set under Job-Details

๐Ÿ›  Additional materials

Field

Description

Underlay

Select the underlay for the entire roof. For partial application, use Cover > Underlay command. To define an underlay, create a new insulation using Set-Up > Insulation with the name "Sarking" or "Underlay".
โ€‹

Starter course

Select shingles or shakes for the starter course (applies to all eaves and rake edges). Only appears in Select-Shingle and Select-Shake commands.

Fall protection

Define fall protection materials. To add items to this list, create a new user-defined flashing with Finish set to "Fall Protection" using Set-Up > Flashing.

Button

Description

Accessories

Access pre-defined accessories for the currently selected tile profile

Set Defaults

Save current settings as default for future jobs. Settings are saved to TileDef.csv file and loaded each time you select a tile.

At the bottom of the dialog, a message shows which estimation method is used (area or coursing).

If you generate coursing lines, the estimation method becomes 'coursing'.

โš ๏ธ Important notes

  • Sarking or Underlay can only be selected on roof planes that have a material applied (metal or tiles)

  • Perimeter battens are included in estimates but won't appear on drawings

  • Fall protection is automatically applied based on storey height and pitch break settings

  • Trim tiles set to "From field tile" automatically inherit the selected colour
