How do I place fixtures and fixture arrays on my roof?

Place individual fixtures or create arrays of fixtures like skylights and solar panels on your roof design.

Menu path

Cover > Fixtures and Top menu: Cover > Fixture Array · Right menu: Cover > Fixture-Array

🧾 What these tools do

The Fixtures command places individual roof fixtures that you've already defined in Set-Up > Fixtures. The Fixture Array command does the same but allows you to create multiple copies in a grid pattern - perfect for skylights or photovoltaic panels.

🔧 How to place a single fixture

  1. Select Cover > Fixtures

  2. Choose from the thumbnail preview showing your defined fixtures

  3. Depending on the fixture's insertion method, you'll be prompted to:

    • Select a single point

    • Select 2 points

    • Select a line

  4. The fixture graphic is inserted at the selected location

🔧 How to create a fixture array

  1. Select Top menu: Cover > Fixture Array · Right menu: Cover > Fixture-Array

  2. Choose from the thumbnail preview showing your defined fixtures

  3. Place the first fixture using the same insertion method as above

  4. In the Copy Array dialog, specify:

    • Number of copies in X direction (left/right)

    • Number of copies in Y direction (up/down)

    • Distance between copies in each direction

  5. The array is created, copying all fixture elements including any roof holes

🛠 How fixtures interact with your roof

Roof cutting: If you configured the fixture to cut a hole in the roof plane, the roof material is automatically removed from under the fixture.

Layer management: Fixtures are placed on layers that correspond to the roof storey, up to 10 storeys:

Roof Level

CAD Layer

Single storey

Layer 11

Second storey

Layer 21 and upwards through to layer 101

This ensures fixtures display correctly with their respective storey levels.

🧾 Generating flashings and costing

Flashings: To generate flashing and trim cutting lists for your fixtures, based on the flashings defined when you defined the Fixture, run the Cover > Flashing > Generate command. The fixture flashings are combined with other job flashings (ridges, hips, valleys etc.).

Quantities: Fixture quantities are automatically calculated when you perform costing operations.

💡 Tips

Use Fixture Array instead of placing individual fixtures when you need multiple identical fixtures in a regular pattern - it saves significant time for items such as solar panel installations or skylight arrays.

⚠️ Important notes

You must first define your fixtures using Set-Up > Fixtures before they appear in the fixture selection thumbnails.
