How do I set up and manage text in CAD?

Configure text defaults and use text editing tools to insert, modify, move, copy and delete text entities in Roof Wizard CAD.

Roof Wizard CAD provides comprehensive text tools for adding annotations, labels, and notes to your drawings. This guide covers setting up text defaults and using all text management commands.

🧾 Text Defaults

The Text Defaults command opens the Font Text Defaults dialog box, allowing you to set the properties for subsequently inserted text and text-nodes.

Click the True Type Font button to display font parameters. You can change options by copying those assigned to an existing text or text-node entity.

Setting Basic Properties

Field

Description

Colour

Sets the colour for subsequent text entities. Opens the Defaults Colour dialog box.

Layer

Sets the layer for subsequent text entities. Opens the Defaults Layer dialog box.

Style

Sets the style for subsequent text entities. Opens the Defaults Style dialog box.

Weight

Sets the weight for subsequent text entities. Opens the Defaults Weight dialog box.

Font

Sets the font for subsequent text entities. Opens the Font File dialog box with all font files created using Text Create command. Standard font files include ISO, MICRO, MIL-STD, NEWS and CENTURY.

Position and Offset

Field

Description

X offset

Sets default offset for text entity with respect to the x-axis of current CPL during insertion. Text origin is offset from cursor location by this value in x-direction.

Y offset

Sets default offset for text entity with respect to the y-axis of current CPL during insertion. Text origin is offset from cursor location by this value in y-direction.

Size and Appearance

Field

Description

Height

Multiplication factor applied to original height of each character (normally 1 unit).

Width

Multiplication factor applied to original width of each character (normally proportional to height of 1 unit).

Angle

Angle of width component relative to currently active CPL in degrees. 0 degrees is parallel to x-axis, positive values calculated anti-clockwise.

Slant

Angle of height component from normal vertical position (-89 to 89 degrees). Positive values indicate forward slant, negative values indicate backward slant. Not relative to currently active CPL.

Spacing

Field

Description

Horizontal spacing

Horizontal distance between each character. Multiplication factor applied to current width. Value of 0 = no distance, value of n = distance of (n x text entity width).

Vertical spacing

Vertical distance between each line of multi-line text. Multiplication factor applied to current height plus baseline distance. Value of 0 = only baseline distance, value of n = (n x text entity height) + baseline distance.

Justification

Field

Description

Horizontal justification

Horizontal position relative to selected point location. Options: Left (text starts at point), Centre (text centred on point), Right (text ends at point).

Vertical justification

Vertical position relative to selected point location. Options: Bottom (text sits on point), Centre (text centred on point), Top (text hangs from point).

Border and Style Options

Field

Description

Boxed

Automatic enclosure options: None (characters only), Box (rectangular border), Oval (oval shape), Circle (diameter for one character), Fix-Circle (fixed diameter for one character). Multi-line text gets one border only.

Underline

Automatic placement of lines under each text line. Options: No (characters only), Yes (automatically underlined).

Overline

Automatic placement of lines over each text line. Options: No (characters only), Yes (automatically overlined).

Display and Plotting Options

Field

Description

Plot size

Relationship between text scale and view plot scale. Original (proportional to model scale), Plot Scale (constant size regardless of plot scale).

Drawing

Orientation and visual display. No (oriented relative to active CPL), Yes (always parallel to screen regardless of view).

Fixed Circle Diameter

Circle diameter for Boxed option Fix-Circle only.

Plotting

Plot visibility. Yes (text will be plotted), No (text will not be plotted).

The text entity may be orientated relative to the active CPL on which it was originally inserted. If Yes is selected, the text entity will always be parallel to the screen, irrespective of the view selected.

πŸ”§ Text Editing Commands

Text Edit

The Text Edit command allows part of the text assigned to a selected text entity to be edited. Select the text entity first, then the Change Text dialog box displays the original text for editing using standard text editor procedures.

Dialog boxes can be disabled via the Defaults Switches menu. With this method, specify the part of original text to change, followed by replacement text. The backslash (\) procedure can be used during editing to add new lines.

Text Edit-Multi

The Text Edit-Multi command allows part of the text assigned to multiple selected text entities to be edited simultaneously. Select the text entities first, specify the text to replace via the Text to Replace dialog box, then specify replacement text via the Replacement Text dialog box.

Text Move

The Text Move command allows a text entity to be moved by specifying a new origin location. Select the text entity, then select a new point location for positioning the origin.

If the appropriate defaults drag option is active, the selected text entity will appear dynamically moving with cursor movements. The origin is at the crosshairs, assisting accurate location. Continue selecting new origin locations to temporarily move the text. Execute the actual move by aborting further selections with the abort button.

Text Copy

The Text Copy command allows translation of a single text entity by a selected distance and direction. Select the text entity to copy, then locate the new origin position. New text entities are continually added at selected origin positions until the command is aborted.

Note: Only the text entity is copied - no associated entities are copied or stretched.

Text Delete

The Text Delete command permanently removes selected text entities from the database. Confirmation of selected text entities is required.

Text Del-Node

The Text Del-Node command permanently removes selected text node entities from the database. Confirmation of selected text node entities is required.
