🧾 Dimension Defaults Overview

The Dimension Defaults command opens a dialog box that allows you to set default settings for all subsequently inserted dimensions. This ensures consistency across your drawings by establishing standard appearance and behaviour for new dimension entities.

Placement

Arrowhead position: Inner (inside projection lines) or Outer (outside projection lines).

This image shows an example of placement in AppliCad Roof Wizard <a href="https://www.applicad.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.applicad.com</a>

Unit Scale

Multiplication factor applied to dimension values (e.g., 0.5 for scaled drawings).

This image shows an example of Unit Scale in AppliCad Roof Wizard <a href="https://www.applicad.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.applicad.com</a>

Terminator Length

Length of terminator along dimension line (affects arrows, dots, slashes).

This image shows an example of Terminator Length in AppliCad Roof wizard <a href="https://www.applicad.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.applicad.com</a>

Terminator Height

Height of terminator perpendicular to dimension line (affects arrow height only).

Precision

Number of decimal places for dimension values (0-10). For angular D-M-S: 0=degrees only, 1=degrees+minutes, 2+=degrees+minutes+seconds.

This image shows an example of Precision in AppliCad Roof Wizard <a href="https://www.applicad.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.applicad.com</a>

Angle Display

Angular notation: Decimal (decimal degrees) or D-M-S (degrees-minutes-seconds).

This image shows an example of Angle Display in AppliCad Roof Wizard <a href="https://www.applicad.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.applicad.com</a>

Text Height

Height of dimension text characters (in millimetres). Always plots at specified height regardless of plot scale.

Text Box

Automatic text enclosure: None, Box, Circle, Fix-Circle, or Oval.

Tolerance Entry

Tolerance method: Manual (user-specified) or Aust-Std (Australian Standards for fits).

First Line

Yes/No to display first projection line.

This image shows an example of First Line in AppliCad Roof Wizard <a href="https://www.applicad.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.applicad.com</a>

Second Line

Yes/No to display second projection line.

This image shows an example of second line in AppliCad Roof Wizard <a href="https://www.applicad.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.applicad.com</a>

Fractions

Yes/No to display values as fractions instead of decimals (halves, quarters, eighths, sixteenths, thirty-seconds, sixty-fourths).

Copy

Copy default settings from an existing dimension entity.

💡 Fractions Tips

  1. Set Precision to at least three decimal places for accurate fraction calculations

  2. Values that don't equal a sixty-fourth will revert to decimal display

  3. Use Precision setting to round off fractional values

🛠 Dimension Management Functions

Dimension Move

Moves a single dimension entity to a new location:

  1. Select the dimension entity to move

  2. Specify the initial position

  3. Specify the final position

  4. The dimension continues to move until you abort the command

Note: Only the dimension moves - no associated entities are moved.

Dimension Copy

Creates copies of a dimension entity:

  1. Select the dimension entity to copy

  2. Specify the initial position

  3. Specify the final position for each copy

  4. New dimensions are created until you abort the command

Note: Only the dimension is copied - no associated entities are copied or stretched.

Dimension Delete

Permanently removes dimension entities:

  1. Select the dimension entities to delete

  2. Confirm the deletion when prompted

⚠️ Warning: This permanently removes dimensions from the database.
