What it does
The Flashing Allowances feature lets you set standard allowances that are automatically added to each flashing type and sheet length. These allowances account for overlaps, end cuts, corners, and installation requirements, ensuring accurate material quantities for your roofing projects.
π§ How to access flashing allowances
In the Flashing dialog box, click the Allowances button
The Flashing Allowances dialog box opens
Note: Use metric or imperial units according to your system settings. The dialog will display units matching your configured system units of measure.

π§Ύ Allowance settings
Field | Description |
Run Allowance | Amount added to each run regardless of the run length. This functions as an end allowance for cutting and fitting. |
Lap Allowance | Amount added to account for piece overlap during installation. |
Internal Corner Allowance | Additional amount for gutter or fascia runs that have an internal corner at an end. |
External Corner Allowance | Additional amount for gutter or fascia runs that have an external corner at an end. |
Combine Similar Length Flashings | When generating flashing lists, lengths within this tolerance are merged together. Shorter lengths merge into longer ones to reduce the number of different lengths in material packs and prevent cutting longer pieces only to leave shorter ones unsuitable for other tasks. |
Minimum Run Length | Minimum length treated as an independent run. Runs shorter than this will be added to an attached run. |
Round-off Flashings to Next | Rounds flashing lengths up to the nearest specified increment (e.g., nearest 100mm). |
Flashing Annotation - Text Size | Sets text size (in millimeters) on printed flashing reports. Note: Even if you work in feet/inches, this setting uses millimeters. 2.5mm equals approximately 1/8". |
π§ Single-Allow function
Use the Single-Allow button to add custom allowances to specific runs (e.g., extra allowances for valleys around dormers).
Click Single-Allow
Enter the allowance amount you want to add
Select the line you want to apply the allowance to
When Roof Wizard quantifies flashings for this run, the final length becomes the actual line length plus your specified allowance.
π§Ύ Allowance file management
Button | Function |
Load | Load a previously saved flashing allowance file. |
Delete | Delete an existing allowance file. |
Save-As | Save current allowance settings as a file for a particular roofing system. You can create multiple allowance files as needed. |
π‘ Working with allowance files
When you save allowances using Save-As, files are saved with a .AL2 extension (e.g., 'Corrugated762.AL2'). These appear in your list of saved trim system allowance settings.
If a special or pre-defined allowance file is active for the current job, its name displays in the [Allowances in Use] cell.
β οΈ Important notes about default settings
DEFAULT allowance settings are stored within Roof Wizard, not as external files. When you change settings and click [OK], they become your new default settings.
To preserve custom settings:
Make your changes
Click Save-As
Define a descriptive name (e.g., 'Corrugated762')
The settings save as an external .AL2 file
