How do I track and modify wall edges?

Learn how to realign wall profiles using the three Track Edge methods: digitising, track-outline, and auto-tracking.

Menu path

Walls > Track Edge

🧾 What it does

The Track Edge command lets you realign wall profiles to match any shape you need. This is useful when walls need to follow roof lines, terrain, or irregular boundaries.

πŸ”§ How to use it

When you select the Track Edge command, you're prompted to choose from three methods:

Method 1: Re-Track Wall Line by Digitising

  1. Select Walls > Track Edge

  2. Choose Re-Track Wall Line by Digitising

  3. Select the wall line you want to modify

  4. The construction plane automatically moves to align with the selected wall (indicated by the CPL icon)

  5. A construction line attaches to the start point of the wall

  6. Click to digitise each apex or corner point of your new wall shape

  7. Right-click to finish when complete

  8. The outline closes to the end point and the wall is reconstructed

Method 2: Re-Track Wall Line by Track-Outline

  1. Select Walls > Track Edge

  2. Choose Re-Track Wall Line by Track-Outline

  3. Select the wall line to modify

  4. The construction plane moves to the wall's plane

  5. A construction line attaches to the wall's start point

  6. The Track Edge dialogue opens for you to redefine the wall edge

  7. Enter the new wall segments, starting from the start point and ending at the end point

Track Edge Dialogue Options:

Option

Description

Top/Bottom Selection

You can select the top or bottom edges of walls

Opening Edges

You can select the tops or sides of door/window openings

[H/V] Option

For irregular shapes, define edges using both horizontal and vertical offsets from the start point or previously defined points

Method 3: Re-Track Wall Line by Auto-Tracking

  1. Select Walls > Track Edge

  2. Choose Re-Track Wall Line by Auto-Tracking

  3. Select the wall line to modify

  4. When prompted, select the line(s) you want the wall to conform to (such as roof lines or site boundaries)

  5. The wall projects vertically up or down to exactly match the shape of the defining line

πŸ›  Examples

Tracking to Roof Lines: Auto-tracking automatically adjusts wall profiles to match roof line shapes, ensuring walls follow the exact contour of the roof structure.

πŸ’‘ Tips

  • The construction plane automatically adjusts to match your selected wall, making it easier to work in the correct orientation

  • Use the digitising method for complete control over wall shape

  • Use auto-tracking when you need walls to conform to existing roof or terrain lines

  • The track-outline method is ideal when you need to input precise measurements for wall segments
