What it does

The Project Wall command automatically projects wall lines in your model up to roof planes or down by a specified amount to the construction plane. You can project all walls at once or select individual walls to project to specific heights. The original wall lines are modified to become the top of the wall and then projected to create 3D wall structures.

🧾 Wall projection overview

Wall lines you draw to create the roof perimeter are positioned at the top of the wall when you have a roof in your model. If you don't have a roof, the wall lines would typically be at floor level (the CPL).

The following diagram shows an elevation view confirming where walls are projected from:

After drawing wall lines, you must project them to their actual height. Walls can be projected up or down from the digitised wall lines to ensure compatibility with AppliCad roofing products.

πŸ”§ Project Walls dialog options

When you select Project Walls, a dialog box displays with multiple projection options:

Option

Description

Project Walls Up

Projects walls up to roof plane(s)

Project Walls Down by Amount

Projects walls down by specified distance

Project Walls Down to RL (Z Hgt)

Projects walls down to the CPL

All button

Projects all walls to the entire roof

Locate button

Allows separate selection of walls and roof planes

Def Hgt for non-int

Defines height for walls that don't intersect with roof planes

πŸ›  Project Walls Up to Roof

The Project wall Up to Roof function takes all walls up to the underside of the roof planes. If a wall line extends beyond the roof perimeter, you can set a wall height to extend to. Use the Measure function [m] to establish the eave line height for accurate settings.

For whole roof projection: Select the All button to project walls to the entire roof.

For selective projection: Use the Locate button to select walls and roof planes separately. Walls will stretch up to match the slope of the roof plane's underside.

A wall line that extends beyond the roof with the height defined to the height of the eave line.

πŸ›  Pitched roof calculations

With pitched roofs, the distance from ceiling height to the rafter underside is automatically calculated, and the wall top projects to the roof. This is NOT the same height as the eave height.

The calculated height accounts for the actual wall height. For example, with an eave height of 3000mm and a roof pitch of 30Β°, the system calculates the precise wall height needed.

After entering the wall height, the wall lines project down to construct the walls. Each wall comprises boundary lines and a plane entity.

πŸ’‘ Viewing tip

Change your view to isometric after projecting walls so you can easily see the 3D walls and select them for future operations. Use View > Isometric and rotate the view to better see the wall display.

πŸ”§ Define Internal/External Corners

When using the Track or Draw Single wall functions, the software tags wall corners as 'External Corner' by default. To change corner types:

  • Use Walls > Define Int Corner to change to internal corner

  • Use Walls > Define Ext Corner to switch back to external corner

πŸ›  Project Walls Down

The down projection options allow you to:

  • Project Walls Down by Amount: Set the exact distance to project downward

  • Project Walls Down to RL (Z Hgt): Project down to the CPL (Construction Plane Level)

For walls that don't intersect with roof planes, you must define a project down distance using the 'def Hgt for non-int' setting.

🧾 Wall line tagging

Wall lines are automatically tagged as:

Tag

Description

Wall-Top

Top edge of the wall

Wall-Base

Bottom edge of the wall

Wall-Corner

Corner connections

These identifiers define the type of flashing applied to each line type.
