⚠️ What this error means
You will typically get the error message:
“The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate.”
…if you have tried to install from a network or temporary folder that you do not have appropriate permission to access.
It may also be that your current User Access Control (UAC) settings in Windows 10/11 are at an elevated level and that is preventing the install starting. It is seen by Windows 10/11 as a security threat.
✅ The fix
The InstallShield application is expecting to be able to see the current install folder, so the best solution is to:
Copy the installable application to your Desktop
Run it from the Desktop
It is also expecting the appropriate UAC access permissions to be set.
🛠️ If you’re installing an update
If you are installing an update, don't forget to select the option to Repair so it only updates program files and doesn't trash your current files and settings.
