Windows 10 supports an astonishing variety of applications available for this OS (Operating System). There’s a great selection of applications in the official Microsoft Store that were tailored specifically for this system that cover many users’ needs. However, Windows users are not limited in their choice. Indeed, it is the development of third party applications that made Microsoft Windows the prevalent OS that it is today.
There are typically two variations on these Windows warning messages.
🛡️ Variation 1: Windows Defender warning when you first run Roof Wizard
One from Windows Defender when you first try to run the program that gives you this warning dialog:
You will select [Run anyway] as it is what we have to do if we wish to start the program. It only pops up the first time you run after an update, telling Windows Defender that you want this application to run.
🏪 Variation 2: Store “verified app” warning during installation
The other situation is dependent on your Windows setup and refers to the initial installation.
Installing third party applications don't necessarily cause any problems just because they are not available in the Microsoft Store. However, Windows may give you a warning message at first install:
“The app you’re trying to install isn’t a verified app from the Store”.
This message is to check if you are sure that the app is safe for your computer, shifting responsibility to the user should problems arise with Windows compatibility.
Click the Install Anyway option if you trust the application and the supplier - and of course after 30+ years, you trust AppliCad.
⚙️ Turn off this install warning permanently (optional)
If you don’t want to see this alert in the future, you can disable it permanently. Just turn off the app recommendation option from the settings following these steps:
Click the Settings icon in the Start menu.
In the Windows Settings, look for the Apps category and click on it. A new screen with Apps and Features will open.
Find the 'Installing apps' options. It may also be shown as: Choose where to get apps preferences. The 'Allow apps from the Store only' option is enabled by default. It may also be shown as: The Microsoft Store only (recommended).
Disabling this option will switch off the warning permanently.
Click on 'Allow apps from the Store only' - it may also be shown as: The Microsoft Store only (recommended) and select 'Turn off app recommendations' - it may also be shown as 'Anywhere'.
That’s it!
Enjoy your new Roof Wizard software on your Windows 10 and don’t get distracted by this pop-up alert again.
