Track Outline dialog doesn’t appear and I get “You cannot enter a 0 distance”

If Track Outline seems to skip the dialog and shows “You cannot enter a 0 distance”, the dialog is usually opening off-screen (often after unplugging a second monitor). Try F4 to bring it back, or delete LastDlg.dat to reset dialog positions.

When you select Track Outline, the dialog box is still opening — you just can’t see it.

This seems to occur with users who have multiple screens and they have been working on the second screen and then unplug or switch back to a single screen.

The software still remembers the position of the Track Outline box stored in a location on the second screen.

So even though you don’t see it the dialogue is still waiting for you to type in a measurement.

It may also occur when you have a large dialog box and you move it off to the side of your workspace to get it out of the way of your model. The software remembers where that one is and then you use a smaller dialog, such as the Track Outline box, and it is hanging out in fresh air.

There are a couple of things you can try to fix it.

✅ Fix option 1 (simple / usually works)

Press the F4 key on your keyboard. This should bring the box to the centre of your current workspace.

✅ Fix option 2 (reset dialog positions)

If that doesn’t work, then you will need to try this:

  1. Close down out of the software (either by restarting or using Ctrl + Alt + Delete to bring up task manager and terminating Roof Wizard).

  2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder where all of the AppliCad database files and user information etc is stored on that machine.

By default this will be in the C:\AppliCad\Roof Wizard\User folder.

If you are running off a network then you will need to go to your network location for your User folder.

  3. In there will be a file called LastDlg.dat.

  4. Delete this file and then go back into the software and select Track Outline and you should be ok.
