I installed an update and now Roof Wizard crashes when I try to manually “block” a metal roof layout or print to a MS Word template

Fix a post-update crash caused by an unsupported font setting (prompt shows “Attempting to write text…”). Reset the font to a TrueType font and optionally lock it in with FontFile.dat.

🧠 What’s happening

The clue to this problem is in the prompt area – “Attempting to write text…”

…and then it crashes out with the following message...

This usually results after a software update, and not all files are correctly reset on restart, or a user erroroneously changing the default font from a True Type Font to an old style CAD font that is not supported with the new report templates.

✅ Fix

  1. Go to CAD > Defaults > Txt (Pulldown menu).

  2. Set the Font style to be Arial.

  3. Select [OK] to save the settings.

💡 Extra tip (prevents it happening again)

Add this file to the ..\User folder:

  1. Create a text file in Notepad called FontFile.dat.

  2. Include the text in this text file with the name of the True Type Font style we wish to use - typically Arial.

  3. Save file into the ...\User folder.

This forces Roof Wizard to always use the TrueType Font instead of a CAD font even if a CAD font has been selected.
