How do I understand roof configuration data files?

Learn about the system files that store your roof configuration settings, flashings, and preferences.

Updated yesterday

Roof Wizard uses several configuration files to store your settings, preferences, and default selections. Understanding these files helps you troubleshoot issues and manage your system effectively.

🧾 Configuration Files Overview

These files work behind the scenes to store your preferences and speed up your workflow by remembering your settings.

RoofFl2.CSV - Default Flashings File

This file contains a list of default flashings from your flashings list that Stage Manager can automatically apply without having to manually select each trim item. If you use the same flashing package repeatedly, this saves multiple steps of selecting and checking flashings - Stage Manager automatically adds them all.

Requirements: Stage Manager must be set up and enabled in System Preferences for the flashings system to be processed this way.

πŸ”§ How to disable automatic flashing selection

If you prefer Stage Manager not to select trim automatically:

  1. Go to Cover > Flashings

  2. Set all fields to [None]

  3. Select Save As

  4. Select [System Default]

The default flashing configuration will then have no flashing pre-selected, and flashing will only be applied after you select it manually and run Generate.

When all fields are set to [None], the file appears empty when viewed in MS Excel.

Note: If you select any other flashing system during normal roof cover material selection with your own flashing package, Stage Manager ignores this file.

RoofDef.csv - Dialog Presets File

This file is created by the software and stores all presets in prompts and dialog boxes. When you open a dialog and values are already populated from previous use, this file provides those stored settings.

File behaviour: If deleted, settings are replaced on startup from backup settings stored in the ..\Programs folder.

⚠️ Network Environment Considerations

If working on a shared network drive, presets from other users save to the same file continuously. This means your presets may change as the system receives presets from other users.

This file can become corrupted when multiple users work across a network, potentially causing unexpected behaviour. You can safely delete or rename this file to test if it's causing issues - the software recreates it from backup settings.

RWSetup.dat - System Preferences File

This file is saved in the \User folder and stores user settings from the Setup > Preference Settings > System Preferences dialog box.

Important: If deleted, the software creates a new file on startup but resets all previous settings. Backup settings are stored in the ...\Programs folder.

Stages.dat - Stage Manager Configuration

Stores the stage sequences and stories for Stage Manager functionality. This file is configured within the software through Stage Manager settings.

Slengths.dat - Stock Length Data

Stores the panel or sheet Stock Length table data. This file is configured within the software through the stock length settings.
