🐢 How can I improve the speed?
Roof Wizard spends a lot of time writing almost random data to the default Temporary folder in the course of modelling a roof and creating cutting lists etc. This data is temporary in every way but needs to be readily available. This data is typically saved in the ..User\Temp folder on the C drive and only used for making things work. The path for the Temp folder is set in the AppliCad.INI configuration file and the System Preferences.
The AppliCad.INI file will normally look like this:
It must also be set from within the software via the Setup > Preference Settings > System Preferences dialog. This saves to a file in the ..\User folder called RWSetup.dat and normally looks like this:
When you set the path for the temporary files to the network, the program is now totally dependent upon the speed of the network and we have observed that in some situations, this can be slow enough to be quite noticable when doing basic modelling functions. So instead of setting the temporary folder path to be on the network drive, like this:
✅ To improve the speed of operation, simply set the path for the temporary folder to the local C drive as is the standard setup and things will run faster.
This folder is always there as it is created as part of the initial setup.
Note that the network path for all other functions will still be the network drive:
