Construct-Roof
π§Ύ What is the Construct-Roof module?
The Construct-Roof module is where each estimating and quoting job starts β creating the 3D CAD model. Roof Wizard uses a 3D model because it provides verifiable accuracy for your quotation. If the model is correct, then your take-off will be correct.
β
You can start with the most basic information such as a sketch, an architect's plan or even an aerial image from aircraft or a drone. With the tools in this module, there is no roof that you cannot create a 3D model for β while most will be easy to do, others might be difficult. Even the most difficult are usually a series of simple roofs.
β
π§ 3D vs 2D modelling options
Roof Wizard primarily focuses on 3D modelling for accuracy, but also provides 2D modelling tools for specific situations:
Modelling Type | When to Use | Benefits | Limitations |
3D Modelling | Most roofing projects | Verifiable accuracy, model integrity checking, precise quantities | Requires more initial setup |
2D Modelling | Unbuildable designs requiring estimates | for simple layouts from poor quality sketches | Loss of model integrity and checking capabilities |
While 2D sounds counter-intuitive for a 3D modelling system, some customers prefer to work in 2D, and some jobs simply cannot be built but still require an estimate. In 2D mode, quantities are calculated based on the pitch as if they were actually a 3D model.
π‘ Getting started with Construct-Roof
You cannot learn Roof Wizard effectively through trial and error alone. To successfully implement the Construct-Roof module:
Go to the AppliCad Academy
Complete the online training course
Work through the learning materials so you know how to model anything that can be built
The training course provides the foundation you need to model any roof type efficiently and accurately.
β οΈ Important notes
The accuracy of your 3D model directly impacts your quotation reliability. Taking time to learn proper modelling techniques ensures accurate take-offs and successful project outcomes.
